Civil War Sites

Several skirmishes were fought in Coahoma County during the Civil War, and by 1862 both Friars Point and the community of Delta were occupied by Union soldiers. In 1863, Union Gen. Ulysses Grant tried to invade Vicksburg via Mississippi’s interior waterways, notably the Yazoo Pass on the north end of Moon Lake.
